What Makes You Great
by Randy Gage
These skiers were racing down a mountain at breathtaking speeds on a run that lasted about two minutes. They were going so fast, that a slip up on any turn would probably result in a concussion, some serious broken bones, or even death.
While I was doing the elliptical machine, seven guys competed. The biggest difference in the times of ALL of them was 2.1 seconds. That was one guy; the laggard. Every one of the other five guys behind the leader were within tenths or hundredths of a second. On a run down a steep mountain for two minutes!
And that’s how it is when you go for greatness. At the world-class level, the differences are minuscule. So what made those skiers great? And what makes YOU great?
Someone won the gold medal. A couple other guys won the silver and bronze. But those medals didn’t make them great. Those medals simply acknowledged that the world recognized them as great.
What made them great were the extra practice runs they did. The visualization they did beforehand. The choices they made to get up early to train, and the foods they chose to put in their body. The small incremental decisions they made every day…
You don’t create your future. You create your daily habits and they create your future.
So what does greatness mean for you? And what are the choices that get you there?
