Children Hugging
There’s even proof that hugging works pretty much like a pill. Researchers say that when a person is touched, the amount of hemoglobin in the blood increases significantly. Hemoglobin is the part of the blood that caries vital supplies of oxygen to all organs of the body – including the heart and brain. An increase in hemoglobin tones up the whole body, helps prevent disease, and speed recovery from illness. How much hugging one needs to give and receive in order to achieve optimum health is really all up to you. Should you, heaven forbids, fall short of someone to hug, then grab hold of the tree nearest you. No, the tree won’t hug you back. But nature lovers believe that this amazing creation of Mother Earth will reward your unconditional affection with endless amounts of positive energy.
At least 20 different types of hugs have been noted and certain hugs are suggested for special occasions; the side to side hug ( or lateral squeeze) for walking or queuing in line, the back to front hug ( aka waist grabber) for househusbands and housewives in the middle of a chore, or for co-workers in an assembly line, the group hug great for friends, support groups, or classmates and teammates sharing an activity together, and the classic Zen hug (go from the check to check hug, the heart to heart hug or hands to hands and feet to feet connection).
Hugging feel wonderful but always remember to ask permission first! And when you do get the okay signal, feel free to ask and ask and ask some more. Several hugs a day helps maintain a sense of well being and belonging.
At last word on two of the world’s best medicines; If laughter is infectious, hugging can be very addicting. Not that anybody would mine, of course. One doctor said, “To my knowledge, no one has ever died of an overdose of hugging. However, as one of my patients told me, Once you start hugging, it’s a hard habit to break!”
